As online poker grow older over the years the competition gets harder because more and more poker players are taking the time to learn how to be better poker players. Losing poker players are becoming breakeven players; breakeven poker players are becoming winning players. With all this going on players need to smarter with table selection and most of all poker room selection.

There is a big difference between playing poker at a standalone poker site and playing poker at an all in gambling site that has a sportsbook, casino, and poker room. There are pros and cons of playing on either type of gambling site. It’s best to understand the benefits of each type of poker site and decide which one you will be playing on to benefit you the most.

Standalone Poker Room

A standalone poker site is only focused on providing players a great poker experience. All the promotions and rewards are fit for active poker players. Because of this players only come to this site for poker. You can be playing against a total beginner, someone that plays poker for fun, or a professional poker player that plays for a living.

With a standalone poker room more poker players are focus on improving their poker skills to win more money per hour, receive more rewards, and play at more poker tables. This means it’s more likely that you will be playing against a poker shark or two at any given poker table playing on a standalone poker room.

All in One Gambling Site

An all in one gambling site provides players with a sportsbook, casino, and poker room. Sometimes even a bingo hall. While successful all in one gambling sites focus on keeping everyone happy with promotions and rewards, others focus on sportsbook or casino promotions and rewards.

For the average player this can be a very good thing because you can enjoy betting on your favorite team or try out blackjack while waiting on your poker tournament to start. For other poker players trying to become a better player or playing poker for a living this is great because of all the weak players.

All in one gambling sites have more gamblers than poker players, this means you will be more likely to be playing against a weak poker player that just won big at the casino or on a game that just finish and don’t care if he or she lose a few bucks playing poker.

Summary

Standalone poker rooms give you more promotions and rewards focused on poker while all in one gambling sites are the easiest poker sites because they have weaker poker players so you can enjoy a higher win rate without improving your poker skills with the added benefit of a sportsbook and casino if you feel like playing something else without finding another sportsbook or casino and making a deposit. All in all you have to ask yourself what will entertain you the most just playing poker or playing poker, betting on your favorite sports team and playing casino games like slots, keno, scratch card games, and more.

Tells are one of the most important things in poker, a real pro poker player is able to understand the strength of the opponent hand only form his or her Physical twitches. It’s not easy to do, but it’s easy to understand why it’s so important. Most of the players have compulsive acts that show to the other players their feelings, it could be simply touching the hair or clearing the throat or tickling with the fingers.

What a tell is?

The ability of a player is to understand which of these tells indicated a good or a bad hand of the opponent. There tells in the real world and also in online universe, but obviously the online tells are a different reality. The common online tells are: talking about Limit tables, an instant call with 2 flush or straight cards on the board indicates a possible draw, a quick raise after the Flop it normally means Top Pair, a player that thinks a lot and than call has commonly a weaker holding. Normally if a player thinks a lot and than Re-Raise or Raise, it’s possible that he got a big hand and normally it’s not a bluff. A player that often raise pre Flop and than fold when the Flop is on the board and someone bets against him is probably in tilt.
If we talk about live table: when a player puts one of the hand on his mouth, it commonly means a big hand. Normally he is also smiling. If a player has shaking hands means he is nervous, so it’s possible that he is bluffing or that he hit a strong hand.If a gambler “stares you down” commonly it means that he is going to bluff or he is bluffing. When the dealer show the Flop and a player looks quickly to his stake, he has probably a huge hand.
These are only few of the hundreds of different tells that can help a player to understand the opponent. When you are sitting at a table never lose the opportunity to watch the other players, especially when you are not playing a particular hand.

Do you remember when you were at school, college or in a meeting at work and there was something important you needed to remember? What did you do so that you did not forget any of the important information? That is right, you took some notes, which is something you should be doing when playing poker.

You see, poker is a game played with incomplete information as we only get to see our opponent’s hole cards in certain situations yet so we have to make assumptions of their holdings through the process of elimination and through picking up tells and reads on that particular player. One way to do this is to literally write down everything of note about the things you see your opponent do and trust me there are people who do this in a live poker room as well as online, though doing it online it much simpler and more discrete.

All online poker rooms have the facility built into their software that allows you to take notes on a particular player and it will store them for you, often placing a small icon next to players you have notes on so you can retrieve them quickly during play and use them to your advantage. Whilst the ability to take notes is great and a very useful tool, what should you be actually taking notes on?

Ideally you want to be able to use your notes to piece together a profile of your opponents so a good place to start is whether or not the player in question is loose or tight with their starting hand selections, then if they play passively or aggressively both preflop and post flop. This information alone will help you to construct a range of possible holdings for them in certain situations. Once you have this information, the bones if you like, you can start to add some meat to them. For example, take note of the cards they showdown and if they turn over a flush how did they play it? Do they like to continuation bet on the flop then give up on the turn? Can they three-bet lightly or do they always have a very strong hand when doing do? Basically make notes on anything you think will help you if you ever meet again.

If you are a tournament poker player then there a couple of well known tracking sites that will list the biggest winners and losers on a particular poker site so it always worth checking these sites or even performing a simple Google search to see if your opponent’s name crops up.

Now that 2010 has been and gone, a whole host of poker related awards have been given out, the latest being the prestigious Bluff Magazine Player of the Year award. The winner of this year’s title goes to Canadian superstar Sorel Mizzi.

The talented Canadian, who this year signed a sponsorship deal with online poker room Titan Poker, was in scintillating form throughout the past twelve months and is fully deserving of his Player of the Year gong. His first cash of 2010 came just eight days into the year when he finished fifth in the $5,000 Heads Up Challenge at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which netted him $17,600. After that he cashed a further 25 times, reaching 19 final tables and winning five tournaments outright, worth $1,895,430.

Mizzi, better-known as “Imper1um” and “zangbezan24” on the various online poker rooms he plays at, first burst onto the live poker scene in 2006 when he came 10th in the $5,000 Championship Event of the Aruba Classic and since then has gone on to win over $3,500,000 from live poker tournaments. Add this to the $2,500,000+ that he has won from online poker sites and Mizzi is fast becoming one of the most successful poker players of his generation.

His points total of 1,777 was the biggest haul since the Bluff Magazine Player of the Year award was first established and was more than 500 points more than the second placed Thomas “kingsofcards” Marchese, who won the CardPlayer equivalent of this award. Marchese himself had a fantastic year, his first on the live poker circuit, a year that saw him cash 16 times, reach 11 final tables and win two events outright for earnings of $2,114,491.

Making up the top five in the awards were Portuguese businessman Fernando Brito who was also crowned the European Poker Tour Player of the Year, youngster David Peters and Vanessa Selbst, the latter ending a great year by signing for one of, if not the best online poker room, PokerStars.
