I just thought I’d have a rant about pocket Kings. I’ve heard people say pocket Kings are the second best starting hand in Poker. Well, they must have read that somewhere before online poker was created. I have a new saying for you’s all. “Pocket Kings the second worst hand in online poker.”
After some consideration, I have decided the second statement is true. Especially in my circumstances.
Example 1: Playing the daily 30k guaranteed tournament on Pokerstars. I was sitting 4th, with about 200 players left. I have already cashed. So I get KK in early position, even though I am big stacked I still have a fairly tight image, the mid stacked player in mid position decides to shove all his chips in. He is a LAG player (Loose And Aggressive) , so when it comes back round to me I think, great, insta-call. That was my first mistake. The LAG shows AJ off, I show my KK. Now I should be a big favourite here. But now you need to take the internet factor into it. Flop, A-A-4, at this point I think, oh shit, thank god he never had more chips, but at least I have outs. Turn 4. There goes my outs. River 8.
Example 2: Also playing the same tournament on Pokerstars. I was sitting about 18th with 39 players left. I’m now contemplating winning in my head, I can smell the victory. So I get KK on the Big Blind. So its folded round to the button. As it goes round, I was like please raise, please raise. Never again. As I was hoping the Big Blind raises standard 3 times the BB. I decide to flat him. My first mistake. The flop comes K-6-8 rainbow. So I’ve just flopped trips on a board that I assume is a safe board. So I check in front for him to bet just under half the pot. So I flat him again. Second mistake. Turn comes 9. I still think I’m miles a head, so I check again, god was I wrong. I forgot to take the Internet factor into consideration. The opponent shoves allin. Another insta-call. I show him my K-K. He throws over Q-J. River 10.
So that was two examples to why pocket Kings are the second worst hand in poker (especially if you play at Stars). So before you thing your Kings look good, consider this: That ragged Ace will nearly always beat you (on Stars), and even if you flop trips, those two under cards are still going to beat you.
To be honest I have no problem with online poker (except Stars). And have no reason to believe playing online poker is any different from live. However, I now hate the sight of Kings. I’ sure they have cost me more than they have made me.
