Phil Ivey Biography

Phil Ivey is one of the world’s most successful professional poker players. His expertise in the game has earned him the nickname, the ‘Tiger Woods of Poker’. He has several wins to his credit, and has been awarded seven (!) World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and one World Poker Tour Title. He has also appeared in eight World Poker Tour final tables.

He is currently one of the top money winners in poker in the world, and is referred to as one of the best all-round players of today.

Phil Ivey was born February 1st, 1976 in California. His family moved to Absecon, New Jersey when he was just 3 months old. He was raised in New Jersey and eventually began work as a telemarketing salesman. His passion for poker grew as he started playing the game with his co-workers, and honed his skills playing in Atlantic City.

Professional Life of Phil Ivey

philiveyBetween 2000 to 2005, Ivey won bracelets in Pot Limit Omaha and one of his major accomplishments was in 2002, when he won three bracelets at the 2002 World Series of Poker. He tied with 3 other players for the most tournament wins in a year.
In addition to his wins, he has placed in the top 25 four times, during the years 2002 to 2009, landing 7th in one of the games in 2009.
He won his 6th bracelet in the 2009 WSOP in the $2500 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Event. He beat out 147 players to win that bracelet. He went on to win another bracelet for the $2500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo ½ Omaha Hi-Lo Event; in this event, he defeated 376 players.
Ivey has won seven World Series of Poker bracelets, and he is deemed the youngest player to have won seven bracelets (at age 33), and in such a short span of time. It only took Ivey nine years to win all seven bracelets.
In the World Poker Tour, Ivey has reached an impressive eight final tables. Although he lost several of these tables, he finally put an end to the losing streak in February 2008, when he made the final table at the LA Poker Classic and won the $1,596,000 prize.

Ivey also started playing in the European Poker tour, in Barcelona in September of 2006, and even reached the final table but only came in second.
To this day, Ivey’s total winnings have exceeded 12 million dollars, 4 million of which have come from World Series of Poker cashes.
