To be a poker player was never easy back in the days, the fame, the success, the televisions and the medias are a new phenomenon. In the 90s the poker players were gamblers, strange people, if you tell to someone “I am a professional poker player!”, this person gave to you a strange look thinking about gambling, but in a bad way not in the way we are use to think in 2010, this what Seed think about poker.
At the moment all the poker world like all the other sports live around the medias, Television and Internet are the real source of money and fame, nothing else. This is called evolution or maybe devolution. Who knows?
Indeed, at the present day it’d be difficult for Huck to stay incognito.
Huck Seed and Phil Hellmuth have bet on strange events. With $50,000 stake, Seed said he could swim in the ocean for at least 18 hours, but at the end he lasted almost 3. Another one was that he could master a perfect back flip in 6 months and it seems that he went backside the next year winning the bet. One of the most strange and American bet was that Seed had to break 100 on a golf field 5 times in only 24 hours, but this is only a part of the bet, he had to use only a putter, a sand wedge and a a 5 iron. He won this bet in only 6 rounds.
One time he bet that he wouldn’t shave the beard during the entire year, but he had to do it because one relative dies and he had to shave his beard in order to look respectable for the ceremony.
At the moment Seed is not dominating like he was in the early part of his career, but he still has a comfortable life thanks to the poker tables. In the late 90s he won the 1998 Carnivale of Poker in Las Vegas earning about $300,000. In 1999 he cashed at the WSOP Main Event for $167,000. During 2000 he won his 3rd bracelet at the World Series of Poker playing the Razz tournament.
He was certanly one of the best players in No Limit Hold’em but his 4th bracelet arrived in 2003 in the Razz event. That year he got to 5 final tables at the WSOP.
During 2004 in Las Vegas he won the event “Festa al Lago” earning $135,000, this was the last notable winning of Huck. He plays the WSOP and not many other events and he likes to play high stakes, he also play online poker on FullTilt Poker, which is also his sponsor.
