7 Card Stud: Many Ways to Win

Published on February 8, 2011 by kkroz   ·   No Comments

7 Card Stud is probably the most hard and difficult game at a poker table. There are 3 major Stud variants: y Stud, Razz and Stud Hi/Lo. Each of these game is pretty difficult if compared with the classic Hold’em, the last one is a split pot game not easy to understand how this kind of rules work. In 7 card stud there are many bets and a lot of cards on the table and not the classic 5 that you can find playing Hold’em or Omaha.

Ways to win the pot

Like in all the poker games there are two ways to win a pot in y Card Stud: get a strong hand or make your competitors believe we have a good hand in order to make them fold. It’s an easy game, but not easy as it seems. Every Stud’s hand could be resume in 2 categories, so the better thing to do it’s to understand in which category our hand is. If you play at low levels the better way is to get a good hand especially if you play full Stud with 8 players. Because the majority of the hands will finished to the showdown. So, in order to win the final pot you need to have a good hand, so after the final round of betting you can compete with decent cards.
A better situation occur when is possible to play short handed (6 players at the table) and you can see many different situations, in these case it’s possible to make your competitors believe you got a strong hand. Follow the example, the dealer gave you 9d 6d down and Kc up. You know that this is not a very good hand but if you can use a little bit of imagination it could be enough to get the pot. Suppose there are only 3 players in the pot, one with 7d up and the other with 4c up. In this particular case you have to bet or if someone has to talk before you a good idea is to raise and watch the behaviour of the players. You have decent opportunity to get the pot also with a bad hand cause all your opponents are able to see is the King.
