7 Stud Card: Positions and Starting Hands

Published on February 12, 2011 by kkroz   ·   No Comments

The most important thing to remember at the table is that your opponents are always thinking about what you can have in the hidden cards, so this could be a big advantage especially with amateur players. The fewer competitors that remain in hand, the less the strength of the cards matter.

Positions and Right Cards

It’s a simple rule and this is why one of the most important thing in poker is the position. Doesn’t matter if there is no dealer button in this particular discipline, every players will have a particular position at the table and a good player has always ready to take advantage of that specific position. It all depends on your position in relation to the seat of the opponent that “bring in”. If your seat is the first at his left you’ll be the first gambler to act. In this case it’s better to have a decent hand if you want to bet, because there are all the other players after you. If you think at the previous example you’ll understand that those connectors are useless in this moment also with a King visible on the table.
The starting hands are the base of evey poker game and choose the right from the bad hands it’s a good way to stay out of trouble, also if it’s not always easy. Likebefore, the quality of the hand you can choose to play depends on the position you are on the table. So, you have to keep in mind that there are hands that could be raised if you are in particular position, but they need to be folded in different positions. This is the key of poker, selection of the starting hands. If you are in early positions, which are the first 2 or 3 at the left of the “bring in” player, you have to think about all the 3 cards that the dealer gave you, and think if they are a good hand or a useless hand. All the 3 cards are important in these positions. The same thing is if you are in late position but a gambler has already did the “bring in”. There is another option, if a player “bring in” and another one raises, you better think about your hand, because if it’s not good you better fold it.
