If you are serious about become a top online poker player then I would advise you to invest in some of the third part software programs available.
The first piece of poker software you should be using is a poker tracker. There are a number of programs available that automatically import the hand history files a poker site saves on your computer into a database so you can analyse every hand you play. The best two on the market at the moment are Poker Tracker and Holdem Manager, with both available for around $90.
Tracking software is vital to becoming a winning player as it allows you to monitor your progress, see where you are going wrong in certain hands and develop your overall game. Another great thing about the two programs I mentioned is that they both come with a heads-up display or HUD.
A HUD is a piece of software that runs alongside tracking software and displays the information from the hand history files on to the screen in real time. By having the statistics on how a specific person plays displayed underneath their seat, you put yourself at an advantage over someone who is relying on taking notes and observing. By using a HUD you will find it much easier to profitably play multiple tables. You will also be able to act with greater certainty as you will know how a player behaves in a certain situation.
If you are a tournament poker player or someone who plays dozens of tables simultaneously then you should consider purchasing an auto-script program to help you. There are a few good auto-script programs out there, the best being Table Ninja and the free Auto-Hotkey Script. These programs allow you to map certain keys to certain actions so that you no longer have to click bet, fold or raise, instead you get to press a key on your keyboard.
Some of the scripts will also bet a specific amount of chips depending on the blind levels, the size of the pot and what street you are on and some even register you in the next available tournament. This makes playing a lot of tables much easier as you do not have to work out how much three quarters of a pot is or search the lobby for a new tournament while in the middle of 12 games.
Freeing up time to play better poker gives you a better chance of winning, and isn’t that what everyone wants?
