These kind of hands change totally in value pre-Flop or post-Flop, depending on the different situations. The first tip is to pay attention to the position. If raise with small pairs is a must in good position you have to think about that if you are in early position.

Difficult Hands: Suitted Connectors, Small &Medium pairs

Thinking about a non heads-up hand (where middle and small pairs are almost always good)..Some players like to play heads up with small pairs, other players like few opponents in order to play only if they set the tris. There are many situations around these hands. Normally is difficult to hit the set at the Flop or better a Flush, but it occur sometimes. The goal with these hands is to have good pot odds, in order to play with really good chance to get the pot. The suitted connector are commonly played only from good position and only by decent players. If you play with suitted connectors, your goal is to see a lot of players put money in the pot, because you will play only if you will set a very good hand (straight or Flush) commonly without taking many risks if the Flop is bad for you. Pot odds are the meaning of these hands, showing why they are profitable if 4 or more players are in the pot, but will commonly be poor if you play against only 2 or 3 players. If there is a multiway pot and you have suitted connectors, you may have a draw after the Flop. A good advice is to put only 1/10 of the total amount of the pot in order to see the 4th card. It’s not always easy, especially if there are many players in the pot.Otherwise if you have a middle or small pair, you got only the 13% chance to set a tris ob the Flop. If there are 7 players in the pot you have the perfect pot odds, but it’s very rare to see so many people playing in a single pot. If you are lucky and the Flop helps you to hit your set, the chances are very good that another player has a decent hand but worst than yours. Few times better than yours like if you have a tris of 3 and your opponent a tris of 5 for example.
